Beans cultivation and water regime on soil physical attributes CIGR Journal
Domingues, Rafael; Pereira, André Belmont; Pires, Luiz Fernando; Schiebelbein, Luis Miguel; Barbosa, Eduardo Augusto Agnellos; Auler, André Carlos.
Beans crop is an agricultural staple largely consumed in Brazil because it is part of the basic food of the population. Such a crop is usually grown by small growers and turns out to be of a great social and economical importance. The aim of the current manuscript was to scrutinize the effect of soil water status on its physical attributes, such as bulk density, total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity, hydraulic conductivity under protected environment conditions on beans crop (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The effect of the soil physical attributes on the biological response of the plants was also investigated. The experiment was installed in March of 2016 in a greenhouse. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme with four...

Salvador,Monica Martins Silva; Köhne,Sigrid; Köhne,John Maximilian; Lennartz,Bernd; Libardi,Paulo Leonel.
The understanding of the preferential water flow and solute transport is important with regard to losses of nutrients and pesticides that affect the quality of the groundwater or surface water resources. Experiments using the brilliant blue dye tracer, a tension infiltrometer (TI) and a double square infiltrometer (DI) were carried out in the experimental field site located around 15 km southeast of the city of Rostock (North-Eastern Germany) on arable land in a Pleistocene lowland landscape where corn (Zea mays L.) and barley (Hordeum spp.) had been cultivated. One day after dye the infiltration, a pit was dug and vertical profiles were prepared in the TI and DI sites to assess the dye pathways in the subsoil of a Gleyic Luvisol. We wanted to examine if...

Effect of some operating parameters on the performance of a pelleting press CIGR Journal
Okewole, Oyewole Titilope; Igbeka, Joseph.
One of the major challenges of fish pellets production at the micro and small scale level is the principal complement of equipment necessary for the local manufacture of the same. Imported fish pellets are quite expensive and unaffordable for the average fish farmer. Hence, the need to be able to produce fish feed at a lower cost yet achieving the objective of quantity and quality expected of pelleted feeds are paramount to the viability of the enterprise. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of some operating parameters (moisture content of the compounded feed, die speed of the press, and the feed rate) on the pelleting efficiency, throughput capacity, pellet durability and pellet bulk density and to optimise the conditions. Three moisture...

Estimation of carbon stocks under different soil uses in the central highlands of Mexico Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Álvarez-Arteaga*,Gustavo; García-Fajardo,Belina; Orozco-Hernández,María Estela; Mireles-Lezama,Patricia; Contreras-Martínez,Julieta.
Abstract The loss of organic carbon stocks from the soil and their expulsion into the atmosphere due to the effect of anthropogenic activities must be understood as a problem that goes beyond the environmental to the social and economic context, with the soil degradation being just one of its many impacts. While the accumulation of carbon in the soil depends naturally on the interaction among a series of biotic and abiotic factors, management practices often cause the deterioration of its physical, chemical and biological properties, and, thus, increase the levels of mineralization and a reduction in carbon stocks. This research was undertaken in the municipality of San José del Rincón, State of Mexico, in volcanic soils under different conditions of soil...

Least limiting water range and physical quality of soil under groundcover management systems in citrus Scientia Agricola
Fidalski,Jonez; Tormena,Cássio Antonio; Silva,Álvaro Pires da.
Machinery-based farming operations used for perennial fruit crops often damage soils, particularly if the soil is wet and prone to compaction. We hypothesized that perennial vegetation growing in the interrows of orange orchards can mitigate the soil physical degradation from machinery traffic. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different groundcover management systems on the soil physical quality indicators including the least limiting water range (LLWR). An experiment was started in 1993 in a Typic Paleudult to evaluate three groundcover management systems: Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum) with mowing, perennial peanut (Arachis pintoi), and natural regrowth in which weeds were controlled by herbicide. The experimental design was...
